What is Verbal Judo?

bulletVerbal Judo is a program designed for law enforcement officers to help deal with verbal abuse
bulletIt was founded by Doctor, Police Officer, and Professor: George J. Thompson Ph.D
bulletVerbal Judo has been taught in over 700,000 Police Departments in the Country since 1981
bulletIt has been modified for children by George J. Thompson and is now a part of our Karate School curriculum

The Importance of Anti-Bullying Education:
bulletBullying is an ongoing problem in both U.S. Schools and the World. It is NOT going away!
bulletAll Children are at risk for Bullying. Even children in Elementary School!
bulletBullying is not done just at school, Cyber Bullying is on the rise!
bulletChildren who are bullied can have issues that follow them to adulthood such as Depression, Anxiety Disorders, Lack of Confidence/Assertiveness, Low Self-Esteem, Problems Controlling Anger, Eating Disorders, and even Self-Induced Isolation.
bulletChildren who are bullied are at higher risk for Suicide.
bulletChildren who are bullied are more likely to Abuse Alcohol and other Drugs in later life.
bulletChildren who witness bulling are more likely to smoke, drink, or abuse drugs. They are also at higher risk for mental Illness.
bulletBullying is an epidemic that can only be stopped by education and prevention!
   
 
At Risk Children:
bulletRemember any child can be bullied!
bulletChildren perceived as different from their peers such as being overweight or underweight, wearing glasses or different clothing, or being new to a school
bulletAre perceived as weak or defenseless
bulletAre depressed, anxious, or have low self-esteem
bulletAre less popular, shy, and have trouble making friends
bulletDo not get along well with others, seen as annoying or provoking
   
 

Signs a Child is being Bullied:

bulletUnexplained injuries or reluctance to show injuries
bulletLost or destroyed clothing, books, electronics, or jewelry
bulletFrequent headaches/stomach aches and/or faking illnesses
bulletChanges in eating habits, like binging or skipping meals at school or at home
bulletDifficulty sleeping or frequent nightmares
bulletDeclining grades
bulletSudden loss of friends or avoidance of social activities
bulletFeelings of helplessness or decreased self-esteem
bulletSelf-destructive behaviors such as running away, harming themselves or talking of suicide
bulletAll Children are different and some may display no symptoms at all
bulletBe involved in your child's school and with their teachers so you can prevent bullying even if there are no signs
